Everyone has the odd old magazine lying around that they just can’t throw out…. Here is a great idea to up cycle them and a great excuse to keep buying those magazines! It will take about an hour to do.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Magazine- you could use black and white mags or ones that have nice textured paper like Frankie magazine. Different sizes are great if you are going to create a cluster of trees like I have in the photo.
  • A Christmas decoration to put on top -I have used felt balls that I picked up from Ruby Star Traders for $1 each in there sale section. A star would also look great on top.
  • Hot Glue Gun ( from most Craft, Discount and Hardware stores)

CONSTRUCTION:

  1. Soften the spin of the magazine by bending it to make it more pliable and easy to fold the pages in as close as possible to the spine giving a really neat finish to the tree.
  2. Fold the front page down the spine of the magazine as close to the spine as possible from top corner.
  3. Fold again into the spin
  4. Fold the small area at the base up so that it is flush with the bottom edge of the magazine. This creates the base of the tree.
  5. Continue until you have folded every page. The neater you fold the better the finished product will be.
  6. Top the tree with a Christmas decoration like a ball or star which can be secured by using a hot glue gun.

PS: you could then spray paint your trees gold, silver or what ever colour theme you have for Christmas.
Have fun and happy upcycling!!
